And more important I feel like I can do something again. On the other hand I feel that my body after 1 1/2 year here and 5 year before without holidays is, or maybe was, at the end of the possibilities. The reason is maybe not only that I work hard, but more that I have to deal with a lot of nerving things. You have to inspire always people, say that it is possible and that there is no problem, knowing better yourself, knowing that it wouldn't be easy, that there is no money, that all things still are not clear yet, etc. etc.. Smile and never get angry, that is maybe the hardest thing there is, always finding positive criticism. But not only me, but hundreds, thousands of people live that way. When I was sitting at the coast this afternoon and looked up in the sky, were a few NATO planes were passing by on their way to insure the no-fly zone (or rather to watch how the UN decision are broken), I was thinking about all those people which are now active for 15 months or even longer, not only people like Tudjman, Milosovic and Izetbegovic, but all those normal people in the war, who can't take a break from it like me at this moment. For which the mill keeps on going. I remember that lady f.e. of the red cross in Tomislavgrad, who looks in December already like a burned out vulcano, when we visit her in those days she already had over 40.000 people going through her hands and now nearly 7 months later she is in the middle of the next waves of refugees. She is alone, if she breaks down the whole humanitarian aid distribution system in the town will break down. And that is just one person out of many, her colleague in Siroki Brijeg maybe looked a little bit better at that moment, but also for her the war keeps on going. How many months, years will it keeps on going. How did the resistance people in the second world war do it, did they take a break ones and a while and how. Croatian news was a little bit too early yesterday, telling that the mountain in Sarajevo had fallen in Serbian hands, this afternoon I heard that most of the mountain is still under BiH control, but that the fights are heavy. It was told that the ongoing fights in Sarajevo were one of the main reason that Alija Izetbegovic didn't went to Geneva for the new round in the peace talks, just a week ago they reached some kind of agreement it was said. And look just a week later the situation is as it has been all the time. The fights continue, nevertheless the agreements of last week. Also no signs of American or NATO fighter planes yet, the story from Clinton last week that he, or rather the USA air force was ready to put their airpower in looks the same as a few months ago. The situation in the safe heavens haven't been much better since Clinton said it last week, but the promises attacks in the beginning of the week didn't take place. Anyway as soon as they really scramble their airforce I will notice it here, since the sixth fleet lays south of the Islands and the air route to Bosnia must go straight over this Island. From the rumours I have noticed that it goes not at all good with HSP, the party of right, this weekend the party will have their yearly congress in Kutina, but the friendship between the leader, Paraga and the vice-president Ante Djapic seems to be over. Djapic accused Paraga, who is now also accused of anti Croatian state activities, from ruling with lies and it looks that the party will split up during the next weekend. Knowing the ultra right wing parties in the Netherlands I think that this means the end of HSP and the parties around it, the moment that they start fighting internal it means that they are loosing power. Remarkable to see it also that most of the weekly papers which I have seen this week have interview with Croatian Serbian leaders in their issue. Nevertheless the strong words of Tudjman two days back on his pressconference it looks if there is growing an opening towards a Croatian- Serbian dialogue in Croatia. The real bad guys at the moment are the neo-Yugoslavs, every body who is in one or another way political out of the main stream is accused of this. From Biljana I heard today that there was a court case against a women last month in Zagreb, who said in an interview two years ago (and that was before Croatia really existed) critical things about the leaders of today. The court decided that see was a neo-Yugoslav and said things against the state and should be at least 3 months in jail. The next round of the court case, in a higher court will take place soon as far as she knows and we will see how it ends. Last but not least today a story about the thousand possibilities in this country, if you have the right idea and the right contacts you can make your dream come through. Some people found that out this month and were able to buy with no money a whole village, one of the state banks guarantee for them the 15 million DEM which they needed to buy Primosten, a nice small city on the Dalmatian coast. Bok I Mir from Zagreb, Wam P.S. Like most news papers also "nedjeljna Dalmacija", a weekly from Split, had some reactions on the Kuna this week. They show some pictures of the animal, one with a nice Utashi fighting cap on as being the Kuna from the NDH time (out of the archive of Vinka Nikolic it says near the picture). Nikolic use to be advisor of the NDH leaders, but is with his age over 90 still rather active and was the one who promoted the name Kuna the most, although he is no member of parliament he still was able to have a long speech there in fever of the name Kuna last week. Another picture shows a rabbit, which is Kunica in Croatia and has as explanation that 1 Kuna will be 100 Kunica (which is very close to the word for small Kuna, which should be something like Kunacic or something). The last picture shows the cave in the Zagreb zoo, where they hold the Kunas (the animals) and next to the picture stands that this is the production place of the Croatian national bank. ------------------------------------------------------ Zagreb Diary can be found on a lot of different electronic networks, it is copyright free and can be ported to any network or other means of communication you like, but please drop my a line, you can reach by sending a message to wam@zamir-zg.comlink.de or wam@zamir-zg.comlink.apc.org.
