Rather precise we will never found out. A lot of people also didn't went to vote, at least a lot told me in before hand. Since they didn't trust the guys who organised it, or because they didn't think that election would change much. In a couple of days there will be also election in Beograd. From Vesna I heard today that there was a little scandal last week in Beograd, Vreme and B92 (the most known independent media's), both had a commercial for Arkan. Vreme had it on the backcover and B92 had a jingle going to promote the guy. Arkan being one of the Chetnik leaders, who is known for his cruelty, anti-peace talks, backed up by the new Mafia in Serbia, those guys who got rich from the boycott. The people from Beograd told me that you can see more posters with Arkan's face in the town than with Milosevic. Arkan winning the elections would probably for sure mean another long year with fighting's. In the main time I am looking at feral tribune in our room, on the front- page a big picture from Vesna Girardi-Jurkic, the minister of education and social work (and the only female minister in the whole parliament), eating a snack and the whole combination is not particularly stimulating your appetite. It is the last bi-weekly Feral this week, next week Feral will start to be published weekly. Within less than a year they found their place in the Croatian press, nevertheless the fact that it wasn't made them easy by the state institutions. No Feral is now a lot more important than the small weekly two pages in S.D., somebody somewhere is probably not so happy. A big part of the day I spend to find money to replace the money which has been stolen or disappearing in Vienna. Not so easy, ARK is that rich anymore at the moment. It grows and grows and at the moment it became so big that the money which was enough for the rest of the winter suddenly run out and there is hardly no reserve. Due to the round tables and the Human Rights activities, which till our surprise, get positive press suddenly, more and more people like to be active within this network and since most of them don't bring much more in then their knowledge, which is fantastic, it always cost money. And after nearly two years of wars the original support from the West European peace movement is getting a bit less. Also all those peace activists want to go to more exotic place, f.e. to Mostar, to Tuzla and Sarajevo. Like Seeds for Peace is doing at the moment, and some Italian peace group is also planning something like that around Christmas. I heard them talking about symbolically repairing the bridge in Mostar. Further on there are a lot of Christmas convoys on the way to Bosnia, some also to us in Croatia and maybe some groups will break the emotional barrier and help the people in Serbia this winter. My planning was to be back in Pakrac by the end of the day, but the Flemish journalist promised me to bring me there first thing tomorrow, so I have a day of rest in Zagreb. Christmas time is starting and within the last two years that has become the biggest thing in the year. The whole town seems to be dressed up in green and red, on Trg Ban Jelecic a few big Christmas trees replaced the Christmas atmosphere of snow (which is now gone) and in Tkalceciva there is a whole Christmas market. In Zagreb you will hear now small explosions everywhere, last two years they used riffles and hand grenade for it, no it is normal fire works again, groups of youngsters are going through the town and throw their little bombs every where. In the Peace Centre they are busy to finish the last ARKzin of this year and Vesna is rather nervous since she has to find a printer soon. The printer she had before became too expensive and the only reasonable printer is the state printer. And that is a little strange, a newspaper which is obvious opposing the state authorities being printed in a state printer. I can't imagine such a combination in my country, but here it is propably the only way. The huge privatisation haven't taken place yet and it don't look if it will happen soon. Today or tomorrow the printer will take the decision if they are going to take the order from ARKzin or not. David had some problems with his camera today. Filming in the refugee camp in Varazdin they found out that something was really sick in there. Not so surprising, the poor camera had to adopt itself to the most absurd climate chancings, rain, fog and snow, that is not the type of things a camera really like to have. Hopefully he get's it fixed soon, since David without camera is like a Texas cowboy without a horse, he is always carrying his suitcases and we really are used to it now,, having him around, looking at a camera instead of a face. In a couple of week, however, he has to go back to Houston and we will see the results. He send me also a small message from some friend of him who saw me on USA television last week, so at last the ABC material has been used. I nearly forgotten on them.
