He is here to make in a few months two documentaries, but somehow he a little unlike some times with his planning. On last Sunday when I went to Okucani he promised to come along, but he missed the morning train and slept in the other train and passed the place where you have to change trains, so he ended up in Novska, from there he nearly could walk to the checkpoint he thought, but he was clever enough not to do it, he probably had ended as a snow man somewhere in the fields. Anyway when I told he about my talks during the night he felt sorry that he left so early. It was one of these days during which a lot of paper work had to be done, I hate it, but it is neccessary, paper work means in this case more computer work, reacting on mails, writing proposals etc. We like to come out with a special Pakrac newspaper before the end of the year in the hope to collect some money for our project, but it always comes down on the last minute. But also time to get a little bit space for phoning around a bit and reading the news reports in order to stay in contact with the rest of the world and that is some times even with BiH. From an UN observer I heard that they often had to hear via the BBC world service what was happening on the other side of the town. And from my own experiences I know that during convoy driving or working in a remote area you absolute don't have the time to update yourself about what is going own in this part of the world in general. You only have information about the small piece your are in. Thanks to our network I at least get regular updates from news agencies and Srdjan put all information on the net what you can't hear on the radio, so we have the possibilities. Anyway one of those news items you don't have to look for in newspapers or listen to the radio was the fact that Cardinal Kuharic visit the Pope this week. You heard it almost every where, do you know the Pope will come to Croatia went through the country. Although it is not clear when, he promised to come. Somebody who also is walking in front of the reality seems to be Boban, he told journalists that a new date for the peace talks was set at the 15th of this months, but the UN spokesman claimed that nothing of the kind was decided. Owen and Stoltenberg have other plans, they like to consult all the Bosnian leaders, as they now are called, before going in to a next round. The never ending story, I think we have been listen to it for over a year now, every time one of the parties say that they are close to a break through, so also this time. The dividing of Bosnia goes on, Karadzic said that they are close to a separation of Sarajevo, the Bosnian Serbs want to trade it for parts of East Bosnia and it seems that the BiH government of Sarajevo has show the willingness to talk about it, how things can change, months ago Izetbegovic was not even willing to talk about dividing the country, now he seems willing to divided even his major town. The situation is Sarajevo however is bad, very bad, the schools which functioned again had to be closed down this week. Not only that they are under heavy shelling and not real safe, also the cold has put the last drop in the bucket and it looks that it will stay that way for some time. Serbian kids abroad are also expelled from education, at least in their own languages, up to now in most European countries it was a habit that children of guest workers could get, at least a few hours per week, education about their own background and their own culture in their own languages. But in some countries this has stopped now, as argument is mostly given the economical boycott. General Cot, the force commander of UNPROFOR is a total different person as the first one, Nambiar, Cot is somebody who use strong words where Nambiar mostly smiled. One of the firm statements was made this week, he told after the message that Netherlands and later the whole EC are edging towards to use of force to get humanitarian aid through that UNPROFOR is surely not going to "top blast away" those "madmen" who break the International reached agreements. He further on stated that UNPROFOR is thinking to pull out in the next spring if the situation is not getting any better. They promised to stay for the winter to safeguard the lives of those hundreds of thousands who otherwise would die from hunger, but next spring is a different case. Positive is that he announced that the talks about a new general cease fire between Croatia and the Krajina authorities is within reach. That wouldn't say that the citizens of Novi Grad, Paljuv, Kasic and Klajic will directly believe it when you tell them, again they came under artillery and anti-aircraft fire in the last week. The fighting's in Central Bosnia and especially around Maglaj are really heavy again, it that area it really seems if all parties are involved at the same moment.
