Every thing is possible, we live in a land of thousand possibilities. During the morning I have one phonecall after the other, every time that I was ready to work the thing ringed and I was mixed up in another half interview, the last days I think that almost all Dutch journalists here and in the Netherlands have found Vesna's telephone number since I never ever had so much of them phoning before. We went back with some cowboys, Astrid explain to me, the driver from BDA (Bosnia Disaster Appeal), a NGO from Australia which mostly drives for IRC from Split to Tuzla and back. The leader looks a lot like "Crocodile Dandy", if you know the film. The all look like desert travellers or hunters or so and when they get stacked they open up the beer cans. We drove with them to Tuzla, and just the day before yesterday we met them again in Hotel Tuzla and they asked what we still were doing there. He already was able to leave a week before and thought that we also were back in Zagreb. So just a few hours later we were back on the road with them. In situation in Tuzla is totally different then anywhere else in BiH. All the different churches and holy building are totally intact (only from one Orthodox Churches a symbol from the gate is a little damaged, but that could have been by accident before the war) in the area, as far they are far enough from the front-line of course. There are still Muslims, Croats and Serbs living together, and all armies in the town keep together. She saw HVO, BiH armija and HOS soldiers still co-operating in the town. That I had in my mind when I went later that day to the Culture and Information Centre, near to the Flower market. KIC had organised together with ARK (the anti war campaign) an open discussion evening about the future of BiH. Beside from high up politicians from HDZ (Tudjman's party), HSLS (Croatian Liberals), Croatian SDA (roughly been described as the Muslim party), a journalist who just came back from Sarajevo, somebody from ARK and a professor in philosophy, also Paraga from HSP had promised to come. Yesterday when I came home Vesna told me that she had the idea that she saw a cock laying an egg (a Dutch way of saying). She was watching the discussion about BiH in the Croatian parliament on television and was surprised by the thunder speech of Paraga against the politics of the government on the topic of BiH. He said more or less that his party, as the Croatian state, had recognised the BiH state as free state between the border as they were last year before the war. So Croatia should in no way agree with the plan from Karadzic and Boban. But just half hour before the meeting the secretary from Paraga phoned and told that they decided not to take part in the discussion. He explain the decision by saying that some people only like to eat in certain restaurant, and Paraga don't like to be in one forum with some people who were invited by ARK. Vesna, but I think most people from ARK, were rather disappointed with this not coming of Paraga. It could have lead to a much more interesting discussion. Anyway the people who came to see this open forum weren't disappointed I think, it was more than packed, without a large publicity campaign still a few hundreds people came and other rooms had to be open and without the fact that the whole forum discussion was recorded on video and some extra monitors were placed in other rooms most wouldn't have been able to follow it. Till my surprise was HSLS not at all acting as opposition party. There line was nearly as two drops of water the official political line of HDZ. The SDA policy was a little bit of an outsider, he was often attacked with the question why he was in Zagreb and not in Sarajevo which his people and if he had live all his life in Zagreb why he founded a Muslim, BiH oriented party. At a certain moment Cicak interview in the Spiegel last week came on the table and into the discussion and the HDZ man was mixed with the philosopher in a heavy discussion about partisans, Jew and Utashi. Not particular the topic, but it promise a lot for the next open forum about neo- fascism in Europe. The representative of ARK had the honour as organiser to say the last words, when he started to explain the paradox that Croatia on the one hand is helping Muslim refugee and on the other hand support one of the "aggressors" in BiH.... But he couldn't finish his explanation, since the representative from HDZ stood up and said that every body had to listen well to what this guy was saying. This made ones more clear that ARK is a part of the "peta colona" (the fifth colons) and that he should take care that ARK's representative is been send to the front-line and if he refuse to go he will be shoot in the neck as deserter.
