Today a nice message from my home town Sittard in Limburg (the Netherlands), they have their 750 year birthday as town and have given therefor 7500 Guilders to Suncokret. After not hearing from them for a long time I was happy to hear that something has happened in the main time. In about one and half months I will finally go to see my home country after a nearly 18 months. To be able to have some time with my kids I have ask not to organise to much for me there. From the peace group in another Dutch town near my home town they will organise something special for ARK and a concrete small project and yes we have got them in all sizes. Funny how slowly the money start to get in maybe. Sometimes I think a bit and have some hesitations, should I write something in my diary or not, since it is not so private as most. When I was reading through my old E-mail I stumbled upon one from somebody in Zagreb, who wrote me some days ago that E-mail hit the Croatian television. In some programme, it could have been the news, there was a report that somebody or some group were sending falsified documents from Croatia by E-mail. We don't know if they meant us and honestly I am a little afraid to find out. Nevertheless I can't really imagine that somebody on the university networks is doing it. And if AIM (for free journalists) or ICVAGE (reports about relief work) are the one they mean, I really don't know. You maybe can imagine that I was puzzled to write this down. My first reaction would be to invited everybody in Croatia to join us in the global village and help us to neutralised our "coloured" input. The network are like the radio waves, they should be for free exchange of information. I know that we are breaking some laws somewhere, I am sure that there will be a law, who says that only from the HPT controlled modems can be put on the grid or something like that. I realise how fragile our computer network is. Just one telephone line away from dying. I wonder if I should apply for an official press card, but than I need some official documents from newspapers or so, stating that I a reporter for them. At that moment my diary becomes a kind of alternative newsbulletin and it seems that foreign reporters may say what ever they think. At least if I read some reports from journalists who were here and I see the results, than I often think that's a falsified picture. Between black and white there are thousand of nuances. If our bulletin board was some kind of a press agency, we could get support for free media or something. On the other hand it would be great for the international press if our BBS really get's cut off. Oil on the fire of those who like to have proof that there is no freedom of press in Croatia. But maybe also I feel a little proud, the same proudness, which Vesna was feeling when ARKzin got openly attacked. A proudness that you can shake up a country with relative little amount of resources. No big demonstrations in Zagreb, like in Beograd, no open repression. But still open attacks on ARK, after doing the same things for over 1 and half year now, suddenly ARK is spotted. It is a strange kind of proudness and it costs you some time to feel safe again and not paranoid. No it is not that serious as it may sound, I was just thinking about what could happen in the worst case, for the time being I don't think that will happen but you never know. In the main time we will try to go on provide the space for everybody and for all information. But hopefully with your support and help. Today the second group of 18 volunteers went to Pakrac, they will be together with the old group for a while, but this weekend their three weeks will be over. Seen the work what they did and the attention we got it can be call it a success. Although the idea that in a few weeks we also will start with projects on the other side give we grey hairs. Not only can I hard foresee what the political reaction will be in Croatia, but I realise that we actually must have trained people to work there the most difficult thing will be to find a camp leader. Somebody from outside who speak Serbo- Croatian and english and has some experience with working with groups. Not particular somebody you run into every day. All that talking about Pakrac would make you nearly forget that we have also with Terra a rebuilding project going in Ravno, near Dubrovnik. The idea to adopt houses their seems to start slowly but it is coming. They phoned me today to tell that the situation in that part of Hercegovina get's a little bit better organised, they receive the first phone bill since January. The post office phoned them telling that the bill was waiting, so it must be really high. Not something I was really waiting for, but we be able to get it organised somehow. Oh, yeah, I nearly forgot to tell you, the war continues, the work "relative peace" has got a new meaning over the last week. Especially the shelling on the old centre of Karlovac last week have stirred up some reactions. And it is strange to see that we are in the only UNPA zone were that sentence really meant that there was no open shelling.
