The fights in the town are intensive the last week, it is obvious that the Bosnian Serb army tries to occupied the last mountain in the city which is in hands of the Muslims. From that mountain you can bought fire on the Serbian controlled part of the town, what BiH armija is doing and on the inner city and in the last case a lot more precise than from the other mountain surrounding the city. I was just reading the material from "MIR SADA" (Peace Now) a Italian initiative from the same people who organise that peace march to Sarajevo last year in December. I hope that they realise what is going on at the moment, both on the road to Sarajevo as well as in the town itself. Their action is more or less planned at the same moment as this call up coming from artists from Sarajevo towards artists abroad. The artist from Sarajevo have send out a more or less aggressive invitation to come to the city now and make a giant art work for peace. "Come of your lazy ashes and join us here were it is happening" and so on. Jojo send me a tape with reaction of famous Dutch artists, besides one who is already nearly 80 and not afraid to die anymore, none of them think that he or she will go, although most of them really are known to have a curtain engagement. The major question for all of them is what can I do there. Even the old one, who is a dancer and comedian not really could imagine that his journey over there would help any body. "Maybe we can take to tension away for a few minutes, and bring some laughs, but that's about it, they anyway don't understand our humour" was the most used excuse. But I must say that all of them needed a long explanation to make clear way they wouldn't go. So in that way, making people to think about it ,it worked. For the rest I wouldn't know what I would have said if I was a famous artists. I think I wrote a year ago that all those famous people should go there and in some ways I still believe it that when the Rolling Stones, Sting, and all those famous rock musicians would go all at the same time to Sarajevo and cancel all their concerts until the war is over it maybe will work. And maybe it I think of it, since I think that all their fans suddenly start to realise what is going on and if they hear that all their heroes wouldn't play anymore out side Sarajevo until it is over the will start to mobilise themselves and put pressure on their governments. But like the invitation from Sarajevo that is a dream, it only would work if all of them would do it and sorry I am maybe to de moralised to think that that would happen, but who knows. Any way I wasn't talking about them but about "Mir Sada", when I was reading there material I got the feeling that they weren't really honest in their information, first of all on the list of famous people who support their action were at least 3 names of people from which I am absolute sure that they don't support them and secondly they were talking about an organisation committee in Croatia, which would help them, but really nobody of the groups I am related with knows anything more than there press releases. Even the small group women in black, which they mentioned in earlier press releases is not particular active for this action. I can imagine that somebody wants to have his or her action to become a big success, but in this case they are literally playing with the lives of people. Everybody who follow the fights in central Bosnia and Sarajevo knows how dangerous it is at the moment at that the idea of jumping in and out of the city is not realistic. And if you read their material it looks like "no problem" if you come to Split, you will be able to go to Sarajevo. I wonder if they get one kilometer further than Mostar next week and if the announced 4000 will come, probably they are not even going to leave Split. And if they go further they will give UNPROFOR a lot of extra work in order to protect them, something from which I think they would do and more over they are not even having the mandate to do it. During May this year in one of the UNHCR briefings by UNPROFOR they warn for peace tourist which would come to Croatia and BiH this summer, I wonder if they meant something like this initiative. I am worried more and more that the Grassroot relief funds are not coming anymore as they use to come, okay, last year at this time it was the same problem, it is holiday session, but never the less, the unclear situation in central Bosnia and indeed on the whole front line makes it harder and harder to make a choose between the bad and the good guys. Not that that is necessary but it is the way it works. And Europe seems to be more fet up with this war as a year ago. Suncokret get's enough volunteers, but it gets harder and harder to fundraise for organisational costs, f.e. for NeXus and the rebuilding projects of Terra in Hercegovina. They received the telephone bills from March and April today and really at this moment I have no idea anymore from were I can get the money. I hoped a bit that the broadcasting of my diary on the American television would have been a good start for fund-raising over there, but it hasn't been shown yet and it looks like it that I have to wait in patient, like so many other people around here.
