He was one of this many journalist which passed through ARK asking the way for Sarajevo, I think I wrote about him, since he was one of the Dutch journalists who was in BiH when the message came that a Dutch one was killed. I told him that next time he is here, he should report back when he returns from the warzone, otherwise our nerves get overheated, although the last months there hasn't been so much casualties among the press people. One photo he made in Mostar, just after Croats and Muslims took the town in a joint operation from the Serbian forces, was in one word extra ordinary. It shows a Rambo-build soldier in an uniform with cut sleeves and his hair cut in this punk way (like the Indians, the "Mahikans ?") standing in front of a wall with bullet holes and a gravity saying "Punks never Die" accompanied by a drawing from a punk which looked like two drops of water simular to him. And other picture showed how Serbian P.O.W.'s were cleaning a mass grave north of Mostar, guarded by HVO and Muslim soldiers. Caroline told about the interview she had with Tudjman nearly 2 years back, just after that incident with the shooting at the helicopter which was transporting the Dutch EC monitors official. She suppose to have that meeting at 7 o'clock in the morning, but at that moment one after another official from the EC came to have a talk with Tudjman, since it was obvious in there eyes that Croatian guards were responsible for the shooting. She described the scene as oversteamed politicians and military people running out the working room of Tudjman, slamming the doors, cooling down in the corridor by drinking something strong and going back in again. When she was let into the room it was already 12 o'clock and Tudjman was already worn out, so when she asked him about his farther he started to cry and left the room with tears in his eyes. He returned back a little while later with a just printed map of Croatian in the middle ages showing her how huge Croatia use to be. She couldn't remember anymore what that had to do with his farther. In Karlovac they wanted to see the destruction of the building due to the shelling, but it was already too dark to recognise anything. Back in Zagreb I jumped in my bed tired of two nights without sleep and long travels. The next morning Vesna J. awake me with her phonecall, she just arrived back from Denmark and had a lot to talk about. She look also tired and a lot worst than when she left, the Danish had organised a very tide schedule for them so they were dragged from one place to the next. But Vesna had found out that in a boat in the harbour there were a lot of (young) refugees from BiH, so when ever she could escape she spend time with them. She was rather depressed by the stories and the looks of this refugees, lot's of the young guys escape BiH since they were (Muslim) members of the HOS militia and a bit afraid that BiH Armija wouldn't really like it that they fought in a Croatian militia. Like in most Western European countries the refugees from former Yugoslavia have a special status in Denmark. They are not normal refugee, but something what can be translated with "Homeless people". They may not work or go to study and have to leave the country as soon as it is safe in BiH. Their staying permission is for a maximum period of 3 years. So they hang around the boat doing nothing or go to Christiania (a large free town in middle of Copenhagen in squatted former military barrack (squatted back in the early 70'ties)), which is the only place in town were you more or less can buy the illegal stuff legally. The price they got from the Danish Peace foundation was more or less a political price, since beside ARKzin, also Pacifik and Radio B92 (both from Beograd) got a simular price. During the official thing Vesna had to speech, but of course to make a speech in before hand, so she still was a bit ashamed, but I think she did fine. She met a lot of people we know, since they visit Zagreb in the last years, but also some person from Zagreb which are now living there. Also those last ones depressed her a lot, she had to see that one of her friends, which is a great theatre maker now had to work a cleaner at the radio to stay alive. Izetbegovic is travelling around Europe to lobby for lifting the arms embargo, he was in Paris today, when he walk alone in his raincoat along the official tall presidential guards I really felt sorry for this "small" man. He don't will have much success, since it seems that even the USA has changed their policies on this topic since the fights started in Central Bosnian. The rumours that the USAmerica were delivering weapons to Sarajevo seems to be as many of the other rumours around here a lot of hot air. Morillon announced today that when the fights in Central Bosnian would stop soon, the UNPROFOR troops will leave BiH, he further on blame Croatia for it's role in this fights and filed an official complain at the security council in New York. From Gorazde a message came by Ham radio that a grenade killed at least 50 people today and that Bosnian Serb forces has broke through the defence lines at different points, since nobody can reach the town for months now, there is of course no conformation.
