Anyway Vesna translated some articles from the new Feral Tribune for me, the second number came out last week and it looks good. One of the articles which interested me a lot was a piece in which among other things stood something about a secret meeting Tudjman had with Markovic, just before he went to China. Also in Vjesnik List, the only really not in depended daily from Split, had this message last week, in that story it was mentioned that Tudjman offered Markovic a job as Prime Minister. In the same article it was said that the official information service of the president denied that Tudjman had offered Markovic this job, but they didn't denied, or rather didn't said anything about a possible talk which took place between the two. Markovic who was the Croatian President of Yugoslavia just before all the tentions broke out into a war, is now having his own company in Graz in Austria, although he still is living in Zagreb. He is seen as one of the most clever economics of Yugoslavia in the last decades, he made a good deal with the German banks some years ago and in the period that he was President of Yugoslavia life wasn't bad in the country. In fact it was one of the only time in modern history that the Yugo Dinar was exchangeable with Western currencies. Due to the fact that he tried to do his best to keep Yugoslavia (which was one of the conditions for big loans he could get from the world bank) together he is seen as not loyal towards the Croatian case, more or less an political "enemy", or at least not particular a friend of Tudjman and co. If this meeting really happened, and it is said that the writer of the article is well informed, it shows that the economical situation is getting rather critical. And indeed the prices of electricity went up with about 60%, the exchange rates in the banks which were more or less stable for a few weeks are again raising, today I got 1700 Dinar for a DEM. Of course every thing was not a land of milk and honey in Markovic time, the human rights, for example from Paraga, which was a very know case, were violated in order to keep the economy high. Markovic was first a business man, it is said, and secondly a politician. On the other side of the UNPA zone the economical situation is of course a lot more serious, the rumour goes that Cosic was put a side by Milosovic since he was busy to plan a coup. According the rumours which Vesna heard in Denmark from the people in Beograd Cosic had made a deal with the military in order to throw over the Milosovic government and stop the war politics and turn them into peace politics. He, Cosic, must have know that the only way to keep this war politics in Serbia going is when you build a whole police state around it to keep the people quiet. Something what is more or less happening at the moment in Serbia if you follow the stories from there. If Cosic had succeeded in his tries the situation would have looked a lot different from now. Everybody is now openly aware of the mass mobilisation, but most think that it is just a kind of showing of the Croatian strength. They say that if Croatia really would have like to start an offensive they already would have done it in the last days. Now it is already too late they said since according to the rumours also on the "other" the troops are fully mobilised. On the walls in Split somebody found a graffiti which said "Give us our Serbs back, you can get our Hercegovinians", this messages was meant in the direction of the Serbia and shows that the gap between Dalmatia and the ruling government and presidential advisers is Today wasn't a very special day, just a normal Monday, you start to plan your week and suddenly you find out that you have to do a lot more than what you thought of. The network is not yet functioning without mistakes, the planned camp in Pacras needs more preparation, and I should organise that the Help editor on Brac gets his money and all those small things. Above all I am just tired from the weekend, been travelling a lot and didn't really had the time to get every thing done in time. On the other hand it was a special day since I had my first real interview with a Croatia newspaper, nobody would guess which one, so I am going to tell it. If they would have asked me a year ago I wouldn't really have to think about it, but after what happen in the autumn and winter it really took some time to think over. The interview was part of a huge interview with all members of ARK and the weekly is Danas. I am looking forwards what they are going to make out of it. They also said that they maybe will publish a part of my diary in the near future. So than I have to watch a little bit more on my words than normally.
