The whole corridor full with people waiting to get their visa to go for visits in my home country. I walked into to room and got my letter. It only took me 5 or 6 minutes and I felt sorry for all those people sitting there and waiting for hours. From there I went to ARK and found two journalists waiting there for somebody who could give them some information. According to Milena they came from Germany, but when I started to talk with them they show up to Belgium. And till my big surprise it was a Flemish (Dutch) and Wallonian (French) newspaper, which they represent. The French guy was able to speak and understand Dutch so we did the interview in my own languages for a change. In the last year I have seen hundreds of Journalist, but this two were really something special. They were really very well informed and during the whole interview they never asked one of the dumb questions journalists normally asked. During the interview they asked me at a certain moment to explain a little bit about what I thought the reason for the war could be. My answer in this case was easy. I ask them if they could imagine what would happen in Belgium if within three years the economy would totally collapse. From their reaction I could understand that they got the point. Outside the country the discussion are going on, there are again peace talks in Geneva and from what I heard on the radio, Milosovic and Tudjman has more or less agreed with each other about carving up BiH into to by Karadzic and Boban proposed and agreed three ethnical mini states. This plan what has been drawn up in the last week would mean that the Bosnian Serbs more or less get the part they have occupied at this moment, including Zepa, Gorazde and Srebrenica, Bosnian Croats the whole of Hercegovina, from the Neretva up to Travnik and the Muslims the central part of the country (inclusive Sarajevo, which Karadzic is willing to trade for the three Muslim held cities in the East) and the Bihac pocket, roughly a little bit more than 15% of the country. 7 from the 9 members of the presidency of BiH have more or less agreed with this plan, only Ganic and Izetbegovic are totally against it, calling it the end of BiH. Especially Ganic criticised it a lot during an interview which was made with him in Sarajevo. Owen also criticised the plan, saying that is was leaking details. Tudjman returning back in Zagreb was not willing to give any comments. Karadzic however made a full statement in Geneva, making it absolute clear that he is very in fever of the plan and see no other solution. Something what was really unbelievable about a month ago also happened in the last days. A group of HVO fighters were trapped between BiH armija and Bosnian Serb forces near Vares ( a little north of Sarajevo). They passed the front line to the Serbian side, hand over their weapons to the Serbian army, got food and transport and were brought to another front-line passing, a place were Croats (and not BiH armija) are controlling the area on the other side of the front-line. The Bosnian Serbian army gave them back their weapons and let them all go. From Mostar again messages from close combats between HVO and BiH armija, again buildings in the town are burning. At such a moment I would like to see what happens up at the mountain where the television tower is standing, the place from which the Bosnian Serbs army controls the area. They have been shelling and destroying the city for months from up there and suddenly they only have to watch how the "other side" is destroying the town in the valley. The UNHCR convoy on it's way to Konjic could continue because of it and had to return. The convoy which would go to Tuzla on Saturday is cancelled, the situation seems to be to dangerous and they will now try to go to Zenica. Although the Croatian parliament decided to prolong the UNPROFOR mandate in Croatia with another month, when I was watching the debates on television I didn't really got the feeling that they will decided the same thing at the end of the next month. But you never know, on the one side the "Serbs" are the enemy, especially in Croatia, were still 1/3 of the country is under Serbian control, but if you look at what is happening in BiH you get the feeling in the last weeks that they are the brother in arms. It is interesting to find out how this new situation will work out in the coming period in Croatia. For the first time I saw a report of Radio Driot du Parole on Croatia television. Up to now as far as I know all official media more or less didn't pay any attention to the ship, which we still can't receive in Zagreb. But this afternoon the english programme, afternoon report, had a very positive item about the boat, stating that this boat is a lot like radio free Europe use to be, given the real uncensored news. Not due to war, but due to the dryness are the fires on Brac at the moment, thousands of acres on the Island are getting destroyed by the fire. Fire man from all over South Dalmatia are fighting the flames.
