I don't know why they didn't take it, but they took a diary from some writer from Sarajevo instead. Most of the people in ARK were more and less happy that Danas didn't took the story, so ARKzin will be the first newspaper in Croatia which is publishing the diary. Strange by the way to notice that since Danas is "taken over" by the Croatian state publishing house, it was of course always part of it, but after it went bankrupt last year and the editor staff has been totally renewed, hardly nobody in my surrounding read it any longer. People who write for it are seen more or less as traitors of the left movement. But when I go through the articles it can't be said that Danas is a governmental newspaper, it has also space for criticism towards the state politics. After that I went with Vesna to the airport to collect her uncle from Canada and accompany him to the train to Djakovo. The airport and it's surrounding are more and more like I can image it from pictures in new reports about war areas in other parts of the world. The closer you come to the airport, the higher get's the density of white UNPROFOR Trucks and vehicles which are all over the place. On the airport arriving and leaving UN soldiers, waiting for their battalion to be picked up or saying good-bye to their mate's. Also you could see that in the last months the amount of foreign aid organisations and workers has been growing a lot. Later Vesna and I passed by the office of HOS near the station and again the flags stroke me. The HOS flag is still there, but now the black flag is gone and back on the building is the Bosnian flag, the bleu weapon of arms with the golden flowers. Not an official flag, but self painted, never the less rather remarkable that is hanging there again. The story that refugee from south of Split had to leave for Pakistan seems to have hit the informal networks, today I received one phone call after another asking for more information. The one version is even worst than the other one, somehow some rumours have been going over Europe that Croatia has used an army force to get the refugee into the busses. As far as I know their was police involved in this evacuation, but that is regular procedure. What makes me more angry is the fact that the rest of Europe often can react so hypocrite. In nearly all countries of Europe were refugees ended up in holiday centres during the winter simular things are happening. All European countries have decided not to take anymore refugees, at least no others than from BiH, from this area. And now far away Islamic countries like Pakistan offer places the world is too small. Of course it is a disaster that the population of BiH is spread all over the world, but they also went already to Canada, Australia, New Zealand and god knows to which other far away countries. And of course Muslims from BiH mostly not active Islamic believers, but are now becoming it in those countries. But when Europe really cares they should pay for it, rather then only scream about it. Fabian from SCI France came by in ARK today with a big bag full of materials from the Serbian ministry of Information, he participated in the peace and workcamp in Subotica and went later to Beograd and visit most of the public information centres to collect preparation materials for volunteers who will come to these countries. Most of the material look at first glance a lot like the material what was produced by the Croatian ministry of Information, nice produced, good layout, colour full pictures, old historical maps, etc. for a real check of the texts the time was however too short. We lent from him a book called Uprooting, which is a big photo-book, with short texts about all the activities of the systematic killing of Serbs by Croats since the beginning of time up to January last year it seems. In the coming days I hope to find the time to read that book more careful. But the first thing I saw was a photo from the church in Pacras, taking just from the upper side angel as one photo I found in a Croatian book. In the early evening we visit some friends and they showed the video of the "red emperor", a parody on Stalin's last years. Seeing such a film in this country is something special, not only do you recognize some things of the former Yugoslav state, but it also trickered stories of the past, especially about what happened in 1971, during the Croatian spring (from which period a nice film is made now called the "golden years"). I couldn't resist to ask when the first simular film about Tito will be made and by whom. The answer was blunt, probably in the coming year by the Slovenes. I went very early to bed, although I rather would like to have gone to the party at the Peace Hostel and NeXus, but tomorrow morning I probably will leave for Zenica, although the change that the convoy will go any further than Banja Luka was told as being rather low. So I will phone there tomorrow morning and see what will happen, hitch hiking from Banja Luka to Tuzla is not particular what I had in mind. I am worried about Joseph who just left with Emma (the truck) alone to Tuzla, he left some days ago and we still haven't heard a word from him, the last time he went he was stopped after the first day, so or he came through or .......
