But unfortunately the planes to Sarajevo didn't run yesterday, so she went today to say her friends downthere good- bye before going back to the Netherlands. Hopefully I catch her tomorrow, since I also want to say her good-bye, but also it would solve that small problem with those medicines, maybe.... Today, dear diary, I will go on very thin ice, as we say in the Netherlands, slippery and unstable. It started when we were talking with delegation number so much. On a certain moment the ice breaking part was over and the more casual and internal jokes started. "You" said one "Who are co- chairman is of the official commission for human rights ?" "No ????" "PARAGA", big question mark on the other side. "Paraga, leader of HSP, HOS, etc...." "ooohh" "And do you know who complained in the states about human right violations in Croatia" and question mark on face "Also Paraga, violation against himself". Paraga is back in Zagreb and soon he will face his courtcase. Maybe some people in these countries overlooked a canon or tank in your front garden, but an own private militia is harder to overlook, anyway Paraga has been accused of having illegal weapons, what is funny if you own an army, for a long time HOS was the best equipped fighting force around here. Paraga is angry since they took away his parliamental rights and he accuse the Croatia state more or less that some of his militia commanders dead in some very special accidents. What make me thinking later on, trying to imagine myself in Paraga's position how he thinks at this moment. It is somehow reasonable the think about the strange situation that Tudjman can have his own army and Boban has his own forces, so why not me. I mean my soldiers fought in the front line and did a lot for the Croatian dream. Surely they are rude in their mouth some of them and a little uncontrolled in their ways of doing, but so are all soldiers, nothing really special. But the guys have their heart at the right spot, they are really Croats. They fought and are fighting for our Croatian piece of the Balkan cake. People elected me and so they trust me, maybe not the majority, but that is because the state has all the media in their hand. If I would have pomp in more money, how knows......... So tell me, this is what you wanted, why making me the scape goat when you don't need me anymore. Maybe this is all to much Wam and too less Paraga, I don't know how the guy thinks. Ofcourse it is idiotic the see that people can have private party militia, but were, are, not all official army units around here more or less, at least a bit, private militia. The warlords in their Cherokee jeeps (also by aid workers, although Nissan petrol's are more popular among them), but also the local commanders in their own camouflage painted private car. And for what reason are the HOS soldiers better or worst as HV or HVO, in some parts of the country HOS was more or less seen as the special forces of the Croatian National Guards (the name of the pre Croatian Army force). I have this feeling that the Croatian state has a kind of moral obligation towards HOS soldiers as well. Also I think that this whole process against Paraga is hypocrite and that Croatia will become not more and maybe even less democratic by forbidden HSP. I never was in fever of forbidden any party in my country either, totally straight Stalinists or neo-fascist, what the hack is the different when it comes the level of normal life. Paraga and his party, maybe even his army have in some ways all the right of the world in Croatia to exist. I am in some way agree with Paraga that this is an act violation against human rights. And I advise if I could Amnesty International to take his complain serious. What started as a joke turned around, it is to simple to fight the extreme. And more over if the rest of the world takes this serious come over and start negations how to disarm private militia, without forgotten to give this guys some alternatives, otherwise to whole think will start all over again. Give Paraga his seats in parliament back and I can insure you if the International community don't help to rebuild the economy the support for Paraga will be a lot higher, so it is up to you what you want out side World. Teach the UNPROFOR soldiers first non-violent conflict resolution before sending them here, since what is the use of peace keepers which are only able to use guns and no basic social skills (besides hanging around with the local girls). Their main work is peace making or solving small local problems by negotiation, our two flying peace freaks are not the only two mediators which this countries have space for. The war is at the front not in the conference rooms. War is combination of planning and drunken soldiers with loose pointing fingers, and probably everything in between and the reaction on that action. Bok I Mir from Zagreb, Wam PS I rather wouldn't have written it, it is not really in line with my diary, but the president of the Teslic club (Teslic lays in Northern Bosnian, in the Bosnian Serbian held part) in Zagreb, let us know via the Red Cross of BiH. That civilians are being put into a football stadion and shelled in the region of Teslic-Doboj. None of the International communities is there at this moment and they ask for UNPROFOR and UNHCR to come. Please people if you have any voice use it to push your government to higher up the international present every where in BiH and were ever in the world for that matter. But this is a serious request. CNN is not in that region so it is no news, if you remember the first days of my diary back in April last year, you will remember the story from the first massacre we heard of and reported at the net, CNN didn't reported so it wasn't true, you know what happened afterwards....... Let's see that this diary is read all over the world phone your national foreign ministry and tell this. I would nearly say rather in America, if we want to proof once and for all that electronic mail works, this is your change, I will say a thank to you all next week on PRIME TIME LIFE :-). So it that we can do it together. ------------------------------------------------------ Zagreb Diary can be found on a lot of different electronic networks, it is copyright free and can be ported to any network or other means of communication you like, but please drop my a line, you can reach by sending a message to wam@zamir-zg.comlink.de or wam@zamir-zg.comlink.apc.org.
