Waiting for them I look at the people who are lining up for the Slovenian Embassy in the hope to get a transit visa for that country and than further to the west, away from here. I see the posters with "Square for the Victims of Fascism" (one of the aims of yesterday meeting there was to get the square renaming turned back), and I think who are the victims today. "Her comes the war". I was early awake, that is not so hard in this part of the town the trams are waking me up, as well as the elevator which starts to go up and down around 6 o'clock. The three of us had a meeting this morning with the representative of UNHCR which is responsible for the money which Soros has given (about 36 million, Soros is a rich American from Hungary, which donated all his money to help free media, private enterprises, etc. , first in Hungary, but since the revolutions in the whole of East Europe) for special project in BiH. According the guidelines they had given us our planned project for rebuilding and re-establishing the agriculture in Ravno fitted perfectly into their project ideas. But the foreign funding is going backwards since about a month or so, the last weeks it starts really to be noticeable, let's say that especially after the fights in Vitez started not much came in anymore. Groups which are bringing goods and medicines are also reporting that at the moment it is harder to get. So the money Soros gave to UNHCR is also nearly finito, of course she said it is needed and when you can get more money out of Soros you definitely get a part of it, but the basket is nearly empty and we have to reserve money for Eastern Bosnia. Disappointed a bit, we went out, tomorrow I will try to get money from the shelter programme of UNHCR, but if this is the tendency then it will be hard to keep the Citluk office running. I am hoping that the sudden outburst of interest in the states will make it so a little bit better, but it is hard at this moment, anyway the Lutherans have started (with Soros money) already part of the rebuilding of Ravno area. After that we went home again, hoping that a small miracle will appear in the next days. Don't give up hope is the strongest motto we have around here. Hope I couldn't give to the visitors from the Netherlands who stood on my doorstep an hour later. I use had a phonecall from Astrid, who went down with our new truck to Split in order to go with the women for Peace from the UK to Tuzla. She returned after she has heard that they had to wait at least two or more days in Metkovic. The UNPROFOR troops are changing and the already destroyed road are now over full with heavy tanks and other army equipment, which destroyed them more than is good for them (the roads, I mean). It will take UNPROFOR at least some more days to repair them a bit, but the truck of the English women is surely not strong enough to make the trip. Elu and Joseph decided (with their open truck) to wait and connect into a convoy of 15 trucks of IRC which will have 1 armoured car protected and is going to try to get on Tuesday to Zenica. From there the will try all by themselves to get to Tuzla. Astrid came back, but they others.... "Even when the blow the truck from under him away, Joseph will drive on" I told her. They have plenty of messages to take with them there. Those Dutch people came to get somebody from Tuzla and bring him to a Dutch hospital, and of course they just arrived when I was talking with Astrid and with people in the Citluk office, no not much hope for them to get through with their rented car. They are now going to Posusje and see if they can take at least one family which has all their papers ready back to the Netherlands. Today also the president of Albania was in Zagreb for an official visit and he spoken with Tudjman and exchange the official intention of co-operation. Also the EC send a special commission to do research on the topic of freedom of press, they visit today HTV and had a long talk with it's director. In BiH is starts to get a little bit more quiet today, after Mladic and the commander of BiH Armija signed a cease fire yesterday and decided that by 5 'clock today afternoon Zepa should be demilitarised, on Wednesday Gorazde will follow, 100 Ukrainian troops will go in to control the cease fire there. Anyway in Mostar the fights went on, it is strange to know that last time that I was there I stood for an our in the park where Muslims and Croats are buried side by side, the park is full, all people who died in the earlier fights and shelling of the town. People who survived are now fighting each other... Since a few day I writing on the network in Dutch with a boy in South Africa, he write Afrikaans and we wonderful can understand each other. But it is weird a South African and a Dutch guy discussing the situation in this part of the world in a languages hardly nobody understand.
