In the middle of a war, during which your head is in fact busy with a thousand other things you have to be busy with accounting and other shitty figures to proof that we are not stealing. Of course it is necessary and of course we should do it, but isn't it all based on trust. I mean nobody within our organisations drives around in Mercedes or BMW's, none of us is rich, when I go from here they only thing what I take with me are my private memories, nothing more and nothing less. Being busy with the bookkeeping however made me realise how small we are, we could live from hardly nothing, and must always survive on the edge of bankruptcy. That is grass root relief work, never knowing how to get through the next week. I realise how thousands of people made it possible that we could do what we did so far. On the other hand the war out there goes on, cease fires or no cease fires, the fighting continues. Maybe Lord Owen was right with his line that he was fed up with cease fires. But let's say that I am a little fed up with as well, although I think we, in this area, are witnessing a fair try to get in the famous book of records from that beer company in Ireland. Indeed it is the question who is in the lead, the Croats and the Serbs, or the Serbs and the Muslim, or the Croats and the Muslims, I only can remember when I arrived more then a year ago they just signed cease fire number 103 when I am well informed. This makes me thinking if the outside world should not start to promote another approach around here, in cease fire signing the different parties are well trained now, let's go to the signing of not-cease fire, let's them sign papers, documents how many rounds of shells they are going to shot at each other, if they threat that papers as they threat the cease fire papers it would have a fantastic effect on the on going war process. The war will stop within 24 hours. This is a taste of the black humour which is included in this grey world. The grey world in which we are living, in which I am living. I am sitting in a private women clinic in Jarun, waiting for Vesna to have her test, we are scared that part of her illness will be chronically. Sitting in this women clinic I realise the waves of tension and attention which rule over this countries. Only a few months ago the whole world was involved in the story of the raped women in BiH, a few months before that we faced day after day the detention camps, now the big news was the upcoming American intervention or the not signing of the Vance-Owen plan or the fights in Hercegovina and Central Bosnia. My room mate went into town to buy himself the ethnic map of Croatia and BiH, last year when I came here you could buy this map in almost every bookstore. Also the ministry of Information had their own store where the sold those type of information. When he started to look for it some weeks ago he couldn't find any of them anymore. So he took my map and showed it in the bookstore but again nothing. This type of information seems to be suddenly disappear. God knows why, but in these country every thing has a reason so I think this one also must have. One of the reasons I can think of is the fact that when you lay this ethnic map over the map of the Vance- Owen plan part of the regions which are suppose to be on Croatian (HVO) authority are not so Croatian as is said at the moment, at least according to the census of 1991. Maybe the map is just sold out. Anyway after shopping for to afternoons he found one, the last one in a small bookstore. But a lot of new books he found as well, the last months more and more books about the long Croatian tradition came out, the maps with the borders of all the states of Croatia in the past, a book with all the uniforms of former Croatian armies, history books about what really happens in the past. And a lot more of those type of books. One was fantastic and he bought straight away, a book with all the arm of the Croatian army, a glance through the book made clear that it are by far not all the arms which I have seen so far, but also a lot of arms from which I doubt that the Croatian Army really has them. What to think from SAM-2 and FROG-7 systems, they are ballistic rockets systems, and some of this SAM series rockets can easily reach over 750 kilometre. On the other hand when HV has this weapons, mostly taken out former JNA stocks, what kind of systems those the "other" side have. I remember a report on some French television some weeks ago in which they showed a whole battery of SS-20 systems which were obvious aiming North. And the rumours that Serbia has the bomb, this rumours is popping up more and more. Technically speaking it could be possible, former Yugoslavia had the know how to build the bomb and also the raw material for it. And so you see this are the rumours we have to live with, just like the story I heard some hours ago that the Muslims should have taken over Mostar and are now controlling the whole area, which is not true, at least not according to the people I know in that region, but who knows when you heard it just like that.
