Made at the other side of the planet and so recognisable. Something went wrong the last days with our electronic mail, I haven't got the point what went wrong, but suddenly the mail drop from 40 to next to nothing in one day and that's is now the case for some days. Today I have spend behind the computer in the basement of the peace centre to find out what went wrong. It is clear not in Zagreb, but some where up the line in Germany or even further away. On such moment you realise again how fragile this art of media is and on the same hand how power full. If you look on the computers around the world, you see more and more mail from ZaMir popping up. And talking with some friends we came to the conclusion that our idea to link up refugees from BiH in Croatia and the rest of the world is link creating a virtual Bosnia, a contact of Bosniers all over by telephone lines, news(papers) and even love letters by computer network. When you see it happening how more and more from the real country disappear you feel a little idiotic that we are busy with such a stupid try to safe at least the contacts. Just if we have given up the hope that Bosnia will ever exist in reality again. I phoned with Citluk and Posusje today to talk with some friends down there to find out if the situation is real so quiet as it look on the news and you hear in the talks around here. Especially since between the messages that every thing is cooling down you also get the message that fights popping up again and again. Not only in the Hercegovina region, but also in the Tuzla region, which we consider as the region which is the best organised from all regions under Sarajevo control you hear stories about heavy fight nearby, but on top of it that the spirit in that region, which was always high, has lost a lot in the last week. Although Emma, the truck from Joseph, which is driving for the Tuzla project of NeXus had no problems to come in and out the region. no real road block made a problem, it doesn't mean that other convoy, mostly a lot bigger and far more official are have such a clear trip also. The rumours is that an official UNHCR convoy on it's way north through Herceg Bosna had to leave 50% of their material at a HVO blockade. "Our" truck, an old west German Army truck, is painted full by children in a refugee with suns, houses, peace signs, flowers and other drawings (although after two trips to Tuzla you can really see that she went through the dirt). Not particular looking like the nice white brand new UNHCR trucks, when they pass by the children on the road shout that the circus is passing by. I may not look possible, but it seems it is. An other message came in from Caplijna, the warehouse from Merhamet is blown up, inclusive the 12 tons of stored food. But also stories that other warehouses in the area are packed full with material. It hopefully starts to end soon in that region. Since I have seen some people getting really afraid of what is happening, people who used to be rather strong and sure about themselves. The last days more news came about the famous colonel Bob from the Cheshire regiment, who just returned to the UK. It looks that the english royal family is not creating enough scandals and rumours at the moment so this new national hero has made the headline. According what you hear in Croatia he is busy with a divorce, the UK army didn't want to say why, but the papers in Croatia told that he fall in love in Vitas with a girl, women, from BiH, a Muslim women they tell. I bought Danas (from Zagreb) and Vreme (from Beograd) today and the first thing what I noticed is that Vreme is 3500 HRD (which stands on the on the cover beside the price Din (Yugo Dinar) 100.000 and HDR, it is also mentioned in Slovenian, Serbian and Swiss prices) and Danas only 1300 HRD (no mentioned in other currencies), both have about the same amount of pages. further on Vreme has about 20% and Danas only 15% advertisements (in Vreme only local advertisements (both lot's of computer advertisements), in Danas also from abroad, f.e. Coca Cola). Further on Danas looks better lay-outed and printed as Vreme. But Vreme is of course a free paper and Danas isn't. And if you scan through them you get soon clear that Vreme is a lot more critical about the Serbian government than Danas is about the Croatian government. In Danas you find now real criticism on the state, Vreme is full of it. In Danas a poll about the how Croats in Zagreb and Pula think about the happenings in BiH. The results are not very surprising. About the half of the people thinks that the Vance-Owen will not work, still 70% is not in fever of carving up BiH, the same amount thinks that it is better for Croatia if BiH stays together. About 43% however thinks that it will happen anyway. We will see what happens.
