After that I of course went to my favourite pub in Pakrac, which should already have been closed for a hour according the Croatian law, but was full with our volunteers and some high officials from Croatian army (which looked a little bit too much in the brandy bottle already when I came in). The last ones pull me a side, during the last talk I had with them some days ago I said something about their uniforms and the major wanted to explain me now that he also like civilian clothes better, but that high up they have decided that he has to by in camouflage. He told me that he had also no alternative since the factory were he worked is destroyed and he has nothing else to get money from. A friend of him came to me and told me to look out for all our USAmerican friends, at this moment we have 4 USAmerican volunteers in Pakrac, since you never know what they may do. He referred to the incident two days back south of Mostar, where an USAmerican fighter plane accidentally blasted of a full round from his board canons during a training's flight over Southern Bosnia. It happened in an area without much civilian so the damaged was rather low, but still. After two hours I helped Jura to get those guys out of pub and went to sleep, but Teet from the peace circus just got me before I went to dream land. He told me that the Croatian police had invited them that evening to come by. On the way back from Daruvar radio (on which they announced that they would go to the "other side" to play the same show as they did on this side) they were controlled in the train and Asa from Sweden forgot here passport in their bus, which was standing in Pakrac. At Pakrac station a whole welcome committee from 8 police men was standing for them to bring them to the police station. At first nobody could speak English there and although they try to explain that the pasport was in their bus only 160 meters away from the station, nobody let them go. After half an hour another higher and drunk policeman came, which fortunately spoke some words English and immediately phoned his boss, who arrived some minute later, even more drunk, according to their stories then the first one, who started to explain that the whole thing had nothing to do with politics and excused the Croatian police for a thousand times. Finally Asa and Kristof were allowed to go to the bus to get Asa's pasport accompanied by two police guys. Teet had to stay behind to safeguard their returning. Soon Asa and Kristof figured out that walking on the icy roads wasn't possible so they started to skate a bit, when they look back to see what their escort was doing they saw that also they were skating and were having a lot of fun. Back with the pasport in the police station they could go with the second guy to Scorpia to have a friendship Loza. Today's afternoon we loaded the bus with the food we have got from the ArgBat in Pakrac, a few tons of Dutch food (without UNPROFOR the Dutch are doing the communications and that results in the fact that most UNPROFOR food is Dutch), in order to bring with us to the "other side". A few hours later we set off for the 25 kilometer which will bring us to Okucani, major town in the Serbian part of sector West. Since the checkpoint in Pakrac is a little small and we don't want to go over the cease-fire line in the middle of the town where everybody can see us, we drive back to Lipik to go over the big checkpoint were I normally don't see any Croatian control. At the UNPROFOR checkpoint however a small car comes racing down the road, in the car two very angry Croatian police men, one of them speaks good German (he use to be gastworker in Germany) and he asked what we are doing. We show him all kind of papers, but he keeps on saying that we have to get back to Pakrac to go over the checkpoint there. Kristof looks at me with a faces full worries, he is absolute not able to turn the bus around on such a small road and don't like the idea to drive 5 kilometer backwards. Not really knowing what to do next we show him the official Cyrillic invitation from the mayor of Okucani and the face of the guy changes immediately. He starts to laugh and say that we have to give his greetings to everybody on that side and that there are no problems, he wish us a good trip and asked if Kristof can juggle a bit for him. And so they stand in the freezing cold, Kristof with his balls, Teet with his guitar and Asa with her violin, in the middle of completely destroyed houses and all kind of uniforms nice happy music goes over the snowy fields and the both police men clap along with the melody. They wave when Kristof moves the bus some minutes through the concrete road block.
