In the afternoon we went to the high houses at the cease-fire line, a place which was not really consider at being fully safe in the early months that we were here. Now one of the highhouses is getting rebuild next week as part of the CARE 100 houses project at this side of the cease fire line. Another one of the 8 ones get rebuild with funding from the Lutheran Church. In the CARE high house we found some of the former inhabitants of the building working in their flat. We filmed how in a room which was totally burned out, not things, no windows, no doors, no nothing only the burned concrete walls, a women was busy to scrap the black reminds of the smoke from the walls. It was probably the strangest picture I ever have seen. In another flat we met the secretor of the working brigades, who speak every day a little bit more German words, in her flat, which had the same quality as the one two floors down were we found that earlier lady. She explained in what the project was all about, behind the back of the camera man was Zdenko standing, whispering the name of CARE in the hope that she would mention it. Yesterday evening Jojo arrived in Pakrac, I was of course already back in Zagreb with Svetlana. Jojo arrived with his friend in the car of his mother last Sunday in Zagreb from Amsterdam, they were planning to help some people from BiH to get back to the Netherlands, they couldn't get any normal visa or refugee status, so Ben is trying to drive them back with the invitations they have brought with them from the Netherlands for them to stay in the country at least with a tourist visa. They, the people from BiH, have relatives and friends in the Netherlands, willing to take the costs of living for them, but still the immigration service didn't want to give them the right to come. At this moment Europe is nearly totally closed for people from this area. Hope that it means that soon lot's of help will come from those countries to help at least the people here if they don't let them into their countries. I drove out this morning with Svetlana and till my big surprise also Vesna J. joint us to see Pakrac. When we arrived we found Jojo already in Skorpija organising his radio programme for the VPRO, a broadcasting organisation in the Netherlands. The idea is to make a semi live programme from the pub, which will be send immediately by telephone connection to Hilversum, to be broadcasted on Thursday in the middle of the night. Of course the owner give immediately his agree to demobilise his phone to connect up the machine Jojo brought with him, although "of course" in how many places would you find people who without any comment gave total strangers their telephone line. It is another proof how close some of the inhabitants from Pakrac has grown towards the volunteers, although the last ones change for a bit every three weeks. The understanding for the aim this idiot peace activists want to establish and the political views behind it, maybe not in always be agreed upon for the full 100%, but still we can work and live together in a kind of harmony. The pub in Pakrac, with about the most "utashe" symbols of the whole town, has become our most favourite meeting room. Sitting around one of the tables, with on the background, as always MTV (not MIR TV as we have renamed it, but this 24 hour video clip station) on the boxes and the television screen, at the take some members from the local police force, at the other table a group of member of the UNCIVPOL, some locals and a bunch of peace freaks from all over the world, that is the setting of a live radio programme for one of the most left wing and avant garde radio broadcasting organisations in my homeland. I look at Jojo and think about the days of our youth in the Netherlands, every day we had also those type of live broadcasting's on radio from one or another pub or cultural center around in the country, the funny varied visit from ....... . I wonder if their ever have been a broadcasting from such a "funny" and "varied" spot. "It is Sergeant Peppers Lonely Heart Clubs band", there is another way it can be different we don't simply have to put up with what it is , Chet Helms in '88, "we love they". After a nice meal in the local restaurant, my "mammy" did her utmost best to prepare the best what she could, Jojo went to the ArgBat to interview some soldiers there. He spend some months in Argentina this summer and is planning to make a radioprogramme about them for an alternative station there. I went with Vesna for a stroll around the town. Explaining her something from what happened in her country, another strange situation, Pakrac is always full with it, as always it is the up-side down world. When we came back later that night in Zagreb we heard that it didn't work out with the people from BiH, none of the borders were able to cross without transit visa.
