Anneke has the first speech, full heroic works for all the workers and the wish that the now rebuild part of the school is a strong fundament of the rebuilding from life and peace in Pakrac, I think on the walls on the second floor and look at the roof, still water is dripping down. After Anneke the key of the building goes to the British Red Cross, which also thanks all people in the same following order and has the same works about peace in the future as Anneke. I see Sophi who just return back from Zagreb and brings my mail, I sit down in front of the building and hear how the key goes from one official to another and than the word is for a representative of the Croatian ministry of Culture, which also includes schools and education. He is the only one who has a political speech, talking about the fact that the aggressor not only destroyed this school, but a few hundred more, as well as childrengardens, universities, hospitals and Catholic churches. Through the door I see that the representative of the International Red Cross are not really happy with the speech. Just a few minute afterwards, when the school children are doing a little dance I see all the UNPROFOR commanders and officials making a way through the crow and leaving the ceremony fast. Half a minute later a first aid car arrives at the school, one guy runs in and returns with all the available red cross people who leaves the place with flashing bleu lights, some thing is going on I say to one of the volunteers who joined me outside. Inside the ceremony continues, Anneke gives her compliments to the children and the brand new piano she brought get used for the first time, they tuned it ones more this morning, yesterday evening it was false. I decided to follow the camera team of HTV when they also leave the building, we end up in front of the medical center in Pakrac in the main street. There are arriving the ambulances and personal cars, soon for dead bodies are laying in the corridor between the medical center and the bakery. People full of blood are carried inside and the director of the center is walking around with a dark face. Among the people you hear, snipara, chetnika, and more words which makes clear that it isn't a car accident (I hope it strange enough, but the activity of the UNPROFOR people should have teaches me). I work my way out of the crowd which has formed itself around the ambulances. The next hours we are busy to find out what happens. Soon it is clear that it weren't snipers, but that a group of relatives went to the spot were two years ago 18 police agents from Bjelovar were shot down in order to have a ceremony there, the spot is about 6 km outside Pakrac in a small empty village. The amount of people who were killed change at each place, I saw 4 bodies in the corridor, but according a high UN CIVPOL chef, which I see in the restaurant, there were only 3 people killed and at least 8 heavily wounded. Were the bomb came from and if it was an old one, which was laying there already for 2 years or that it is a new one, placed their during last night, after the UNPROFOR and HV checked the place is unclear. From the our sleeping school walk down into the town in the hope to get some information from the UNOV office. Happy children in Slavonian costumes are coming up the road, they just left the party at the new school and also their parents haven't heard yet what happened, the crowd at the medical center has disappeared. Walking through the town I don't feel the same tension which you could feel in the air after those police agents were shot down a few weeks ago. Nobody is in the UNOV office which can tell something new, so I return back to our school in order to find out if the working brigades office knows something. Goran just come out of it when I arrive, a guy who stood just 25 meters away when it happens and whose pants are full of blood, tell what happened. They walked upon with the flowers to a house at the road sight and some person went in and them the explosion went of, according to the specialist it was a PM 1 landmine, a mine special against human beings. The explosion was horrible and 3 people immediately died, one on the way to the medical centre in Pakrac, for the lot of them got wounded, including the people from HTV which were filming it when it happens. Also there seems to be an UNPROFOR soldier among the wounded. In the evening we talk about it in the group of volunteers, in 1 months 8 people died directly related with the war, what the hell is going on in this area. It looked all so joyful this morning at the school, the little children dancing and singing and all the people of the town who dare to go as far of the school now, a place where nobody has been in the last two years. At least nobody else than some inspectors and those people who left the word peace and love on nearly all black board in any classroom. I wonder who in the town has done that.
