Our postbox is luckily enough not yet overflowed with local commercial propaganda, but that is a matter of time, I think. As soon as the printing possibility in this country will raise that will be soon over I think. Television and radio are already streamline according to a for European still acceptable level of USAmerican commercial television. In the last three years I didn't only watch an area of war, but also an area, a region where in economical transmission. Like from friends in other parts of Europe in similar transmission situation this goes along with a rapid change of the consumer market. What today is still special is tomorrow already old and normal. In this last years I have seen slowly all kind of products of the west taking over the shelves in the shops. Products with which I am not always so happy. But I have to admit that my environmental awareness has been getting also less in the last years................ It is late in the evening, it was a real Friday television evening. The biggest joke was a story about the Eko-Brigada in Varazdin. In the spot the showed three obvious mothers and house care- takers armed with a supersocker spying at the children at a candy shop. As soon as one drop a chewing gum paper he was violently arrested and at supersocker gun point brought to the local dump yard to be kept as prisoner for some time. That's the way we are going to take care about the environment around here. For those who take it too serious the spot of course was a joke. Today signed the agreement between Knin and Zagreb is signed about vodovod (water connection) and autoput (highway). Although a few days ago it was very unclear if it should happen, since Knin had delayed the parliamentary meeting, where the decision of the preliminary agreement of some weeks ago on the airport in Zagreb should be rectified. But at the last moment everything went according to plan. And today all the major players in this small step (in this case of cause the Peace mediators and representatives of Knin and Zagreb, Tudjman f.e. is not dealing with such minor agreements) came together to sign the agreements. This agreement ofcourse mean a lot for sector West. Their is every summer a problem with the water supplies in Pakrac (since the waterworks lay on the "Serbian" side of the town) and the most problematic part of the highway goes also through sector West, that part of the highway connects Croatia with Croatia is likely to be used, since a saves you a 120 Km detour. The other part of the highway in the UNPA is between Croatia and the Serbian border, some how I expect a few less cars willing to use that part of the highway. The last days a new AIDS spots is broadcasted on Croatian television. At last some thing, ofcourse the world aids day help a bit. Up to now we didn't get so much information about it around here. Beside from a huge story in one of the sensation magazines when a famous person in the country dies suddenly and the cause is get known as being AIDS. Ones and a while a stand-alone spot, ARKzin writing about it and their special safe sex number special. But now at least something seems to start up there some where. Ofcourse beside the global information, which for ones covered the whole range of possibilities people could get AIDS (beside than getting it from blood donations on the front-line from donors which are not checked, but that is ofcourse too regional), also the launch of a campaign in the ideas as far I could understood "watch over your family, be aware of the dangers of AIDS". Isn't this also the UN year of the family ? An information film about Tito today on Croatian television. The interesting part was a visit at house where Tito was born, in Kumrovec, just about 50 kilometres or less north from Zagreb. It was the first place in what is now called Croatia where I said foot on in those days Yugoslavia. I visit Yugoslavia as guest of the Socialist Youth and landed at Zagreb airport, before I could go through the customers somebody picked me up and in a nice big black car, with two motor agents in front and two in the back I was brought to Kumrovec to the youth centre there. Nearby from where 15 year later in 1991 the Anti War Campaign was grounded, but who would think about that in those days, Tito was still alive. In all that time that I have been here I never came around to it to visit the place. In the film I saw that the house still exist and that still people are visiting the museum which is inside and signing the guest-book. One of these days I really should visit the place and look for myself. There are actually thousands of places which I would like to visit since I have memories there from before the war. With a half ear I am listing to Croatian television when I was just reading so UNHCR reports about what is necessary this winter for BiH, there is a kind of fashion programme going on. They say that yearly 7.5 billion dollars spend world wide on perfume. With the whole of December in front of us and knowing how much money around the globe will be spend in this month on this type of useless things makes me a little feeling bad, to say it softly.
