Not so good that I went to see the new tradition which an "underground" youth center has started last year, but still. Last year they started at 12 o'clock on this day with a new ritual of drumming the evil ghost from this year away and make space for the new year. They start just after the little canon in the tower on the mountain goes off at noon and keep on drumming for an hour or so. Since a lot of them I can consider as my friends I would have like to see it, last year I missed it also since I spend that day in Mostar. Better at least for the people in the 16 busses, who arrived today from a long journey from Sarajevo. The first big convoy with people out of the town for a long time. The BBC or CNN also showed it on their television and one of them made a close up of all the empty aeroplanes who brought humanitarian aid to Sarajevo returning empty back to Split or Zagreb. But that is as far as I know not a decision which UNHCR or UNPROFOR can take, that must be decided in New York or at least at the conference tables in Geneva. As far as what I can remember the Bosnian Serbs were against it when it was proposed months ago. Most of the refugees who arrived today in Split are going further, most especially the Muslims are going abroad to join themselves with family there. Some German arms company seems to have some problems, their arms have been seen at least on the side of the Bosnian Serbs and there seems to be stories that it can be proofed that the company delivered this weapons directly to them, even after the arms embargo was put up. The president of the company said that it was nonsense. Against the former president of this company also has to go to court, he is accused of selling weapons to Iraq, also after the embargo was declared. The next item was a film from the Belgian television, they went into Knin area and interview the "famous" Captain Dragan of the Krajina Red Barrettes. Just at the moment that they show him in action at some artillery shooting in the air or something at the top of the screen the message came that there was air alarm in one Croatian village. You think a that moment maybe it is live, but you know it is untrue since on the film it is day and some where in the autumn and outside it is dark and winter. A few minutes later the messages came that Zupanja was also under general alarm so this earlier village probably lay in that area. And that is on the total different side of Croatia an they are not shot at from Krajina, even not from near Vukovar, but from Bosnian Serb held territories south of them, near to Brcko. When a few minutes later appeared that also the village called Buscani (also just a spot on the map, and probably 25 houses) also was under alarm it was clear that it had nothing to do with the film. I still make it a habit to try to find on the map were a place is laying when I don't know the name, and I must say I have learn a lot of the geography of Croatia and BiH in the last 20 months that way. No, it didn't went better in 1993, that was what Tudjman explain the readers of Die Welt, a big German newspaper in an interview that nearly was broadcasted live in Croatia. "1993 did brought the peace and joy we hoped for" he said. Now we have a day to go and I think indeed he is right about that one, this time we fully agree. Manfred and his girlfriend passed by today to wish me good luck and to tell the good news that the people on the Croatian side has fully agreed with Manfred's new plans. Zdenko announced today that we really will start working immediately in the beginning of the year. I think that our talk at the Christmas table a few days back really has loosing up a lot of the tension. Before I forget those Croats abroad, the Croatian Diaspora as it is called so nice, Vecernji List will have from now in their abroad edition a new magazine inside, called "Dom i Svijet" (Home and World) and which must give answer to all the often ask question from Croats abroad. This magazine will be financed by the Croatian Homeland Foundation and the Croatian Information Centre. Our friends in Beograd have heard today that their money soon will loose 9 zero's, the national bank already has printed brand new 10, 1000, 5000 notes and their will 1 Dinar coins. Somewhere in September they already took off 6 zero's, it is a really good country if collect banknote's, not so dull as the states at least, where they have I believe the same money for the last 200 year or so. But for the rest it don't sound that they have found the perfect solution this time. At 23 January the second round of the elections for president in Krajina will take place, the countings are finished and it show that Milan Babic is 0.06 % away from the absolute majority and so he has to compete with Milan Martic the second time, who got 25.92 % in the first run. Zagreb of course announced again that this elections are illegal.
