Also I would like to see my local friends for an evening. So I ended up deep in the night playing darts against Jura, on an electronic dart game (on the other side there is a pub where they play dart with knives, but that is another story) and to my big and Jura's surprise I win. Later on I form a team (Slavonia) together with one of the richest local people before the war, he lost almost everything, against Jura and Jojo, who form the Croatian team, we end in draw. Back on the Serbian Krajina side we have first a meeting with some officials about the kindergarten, again they have a proposal for another place. But this time they promise me they will do their best that we can start soon with our activities. After that we play with the children, I brought a "frisbee" along from the "other side" and in no-time 10 children are running around us to learn how to play with it. Lynette has there heavy afternoon, 3 English lessons in a row, her students are rather motivated, since they walk for more than 4 kilometres some times to come to their lessons. One of their motivations is to be able to talk with UNPROFOR, but our experiences show that they better should learn Spanish. After that we decided to pay the local UNPROFOR commander on this side a visit, since he offered us some food to spread around under those who really need it. When we finally get permission to enter their house and walk up over the half finished stair to the eating room the commander tells us, with almost all the English words he knows that the one in charge of food is gone to the "other side" and that we have to return tomorrow. In the corner of the eating room a videoplayer shows an American film, translated in Spanish. The sound of the generator, next to the building is however some times louder than the film sound. After we asked for some mate and real Argentinean wine he explains that mate is allowed, but that they have decided that they don't serve alcohol within the UNPROFOR barracks and houses anymore. I look at him with a half eye, but he convince me that there is not one drop of alcohol in the whole house. He explains a bit about the role of the army in Argentina, he describe them as the watchdogs of democracy. We haven't really the lust to start a discussion about it at the moment. Anyway if I would start discussion every political view in this area, from everybody I am in contact with I would have a daily job and probably wouldn't feel that safe anymore. I try to ask, to listen and learn. Back in the house were we sleep there is at last electricity again, it came back somewhere during last night. So we first watch the Croatian news. On which they tell that in the coming days probably the first real "peace" agreement between Serbian Krajina and Croatia will be signed. Further on it seems that an UN helicopter has been shot at somewhere above sector North, it wasn't so serious, but at least 5 bullets went through the rump. Also they mentioned that Bosnian Serbs have returned the 9 left over trucks, which were hi-jacked on Wednesday, yesterday already 1 was returned. On Wednesday unknown soldiers in Bosnian Serbian uniforms hi-jacked a 10 trucks big Danish UNHCR convoy on his way to Maglaj, near Teslic. According an UNHCR spokesman all trucks were immediately looted and also the private belongings were taken out. The drivers were send for a walk and later picked up by the British UNPROFOR and brought to Zenica. The truck are back now, the cargo and private things will be for ever gone. Karadzic said in an interview later broadcasted on Banja Luka television that this was not official policy and that those soldiers operated without permission of the high Bosnian Serbian command. Karadzic also announced on the same station (Banja Luka) that the Bosnian Serbian parliament has decided not to join the Muslim-Croat federation. The say No to the federation and YES to peace. The federation however don't safe guard the position of the Serbian people in BiH, he said. After that we watch the weather forecast on Beograd television. The weather was almost the same as forecasted an hour before on the Croatian television. The big different however is that on Croatian television you don't see the borders of the UNPA zone's on the map and cities laying in Serbian Krajina controlled area are mentioned simular as cities in the Croatian controlled part on Croatia. On Beograd television however the borders where clearly drawn, if you have to believe their map, the Serbian Krajina controlled part of Western Slavonia, however, stretched out to a few kilometres under the Hungarian border (the whole UNPA West). In reality Serbian Krajina only controls less than 1/3 of the region in Western Slavonian, more than 2/3 of UNPA West is controlled by the Croatian government in Zagreb.
