Since Klaus has find out about the fights between Muslims and Croats about a year ago and the heavy situation which was appearing for Muslims in Croatia he is bringing in this point in almost every discussion. He told that he made a short visit to Zagreb last week, too short to really visit us, to check if the money they are giving from his committee for basic rights and democracy (Kommittee fur Grundrechte und Demokratie) to one of the refugee camps here in Zagreb, in order to buy fresh fruit and milk every week, is been used properly. According to his investigation the money and fruit only went to the Croatian refugee in the camp, the Muslims didn't got anything. So He went to the governmental office to complain about it and threaten to stop all help to Croatia from his organisation, but also that he will inform other grassroots organisations about it. Since the meetings of the federation between Muslims and Croats in BiH has continued yesterday and they announced in the evening that Croatian officials and officials from the BiH (Muslim) government and from HVO (Croatian) will finish a preliminary draft of the future federation, as well as the fact that in towns of heavy fighting like Mostar it was quiet today and the heavy weapons has been handed over to UNPROFOR or brought out of the town, as agreed, this situation described above may change soon. Still it is unbelievable that some people who said less than 15 days ago that it is impossible for Croats and Muslims to life together in peace, suddenly seems to have over come this problems. I told that to Klaus, the attitudes he experienced last time during his visit can be already changed in the last week, who knows, we are living in the land of magic. The Bosnian Serbs are however not included in this process. Reports came that new troops of Bosnian Serbian Army has arrived in the Maglaj area (from Sarajevo ?) and the Croatian newspapers today wrote about the air attacks by Bosnian Serb planes, which were announced yesterday by Sarajevo radio (although up to now still not approved by UNPROFOR sources). They said in the newspapers that indeed the bridge linking the old and the new part of the town is destroyed and that also later attacks took place on civilian targets. Besides this air attacks also at least 400 shells were fired on the town yesterday. An UNHCR spokesman said that the centre of the town in ruins. None of the convoys heading to Maglaj has come through yet. In total inn the last week 5 convoys into BiH has been blocked and 3 of them turned back already. The convoy aimed for Sarajevo, which is has been blocked for days in Hadzici (under Bosnian Serb control) by women also returned. Other convoys on their way to Gorazde and Zepce also had to return. One of the convoys was stopped by a Bosnian Serb group and they took 5,5 tonnes of fuel and threatened to do the same to the other. The red cross of Zepce, by the way, issued a press release today that at least 10.000 people in the town are facing starvation and in the hospital there are at least 60 cases of hepatitis, and of course no medicines. Although the oil fields near Banja Luka and Vukovar are still working, fuel seems to be the hardest need in Serbian controlled parts of Ex-Yu. In the Croatian newspapers I read today that Bulgarian authorities have officially asked the government in Beograd to return a convoy of river boats, carrying over 6000 tons of petroleum. It seems that this convoy was taken over by an armed band in Bulgaria and forced to go into Serbia, nothing is heard so far from the boats and the crew. A few days ago I recall that the secretary general of the UN issued a statement that countries which were some how biased in the conflict couldn't send any troops to this area to join the peace keeping forces (in that case there was an offer from Iran). Today however the Turkish authorities, which is obvious also an Islam state and which has strong links with both the BiH government in Sarajevo and the Croatian government in Zagreb, announced that they also will send troops to BiH to join UNPROFOR. They said that the Russians no longer had any arguments against it. Maybe it is me, but for some reason I never really find out the guidelines of the UN, I got the feeling that they are different all the time. By the way the promise of the UK to send more troops was followed up by an announcement in the UK newspapers that at least 1.200 more troops will come. The Swedish and Danish UNPROFOR troops have taken over the control of Tuzla airport in the last days, according to the statements in the last weeks the airport is bound to be opened tomorrow. So we will see. Last but not least the German government has announced tat they will expel 200.000 refugees from Serbia, Montenegro (and Kosovo) in the coming weeks.
