Beside being busy with my computer and reading and writing reports and other dull stuff. Vesna brought a bag full reading material from Macedonia, and the bag also, a imitation leather bag, which probebly nobody wants to buy, any way, therefor the all participants on the meeting got one for free from the Macedonian government. Macedonia still or rather just officially called FYROM is still one of those forgotten fights which is also going on around here. Thanks to the present of the government the discussion on the meeting in the beginning went in the way from discussion the history and the real amount of inhabitants of Macedonia (FYROM). Some Macedonian journalist said that the information given by the state was not right, not Macedonian enough, the history from Macedonia, this, our, Macedonia starts much earlier. Everything in Macedonia is independent nowadays, they have 30 television stations (and I thought that Croatia with 3 had already a lot), 200 or more radio stations and a full kiosk of newspapers and about 2.5 million people. Some people said that the independent craziness went so far tat they like to be independent from the independent. Croatia a country with a cultural mentality, which some people make jokes about, but in a way it is fun to watch it. The nice facelift of the centre of Zagreb is still going on. The work during the summer like hell to get the outlook good for when the pope would come, but the last months the speed is a lot less. Actually in looks if they can be busy another year with finishing. If you pass by you always wonder how it is possible that so many people can produce so little bit of work looking so busy and discussing each little detail with each other. Two houses down the road a family is repairing it house, every evening after 5 about 15 men are arriving and within ten minutes they are all working like idiots. No discussion, no breaks, no pause, like some times on Sunday in Pakrac, suddenly everybody is forgotten that the workweek is over and all the energy seems to come out. It sounds as a joke, but it isn't, I see it happening. Still I like that mentality a lot, you wouldn't get a heart attack from working that way (during the day at least), at the most a bad liver (from the alcohol). Yes, and why should you work, you have a job and the state pays everything, it has been that way all my live and why should I change now capitalism suddenly comes around the corner. Like the waiter in the state restaurant we are coming ones in a while. I wonder if it is not possible to blow up half of his restaurant and he still will continue with his newspaper (the next day returns sees nothing and reads in his paper that his restaurant was blown away (he already thought that it was chilly). You couldn't move the guy with any thing. A social revolution, an adoption of a new economic system, a war, nonetheless he keeps going as he has been doing the rest of his life. If you pass by the HQ of the Croatian Army (near to where we live) things are as they use to be, one or three soldier on guard, hanging somewhere around the building, looking very dangerous, but aren't. Some sport cars and official army cars and nothing absolutely nothing that could in the make you think that anywhere in Croatia something is still in war. No chaos, no speedy motor soldiers leaving in top speed, nothing. Maybe the few bullet holes from back in the fall from '91. Nice and quiet. From Serbia I heard that the Army their is a little disagree with Milosevic. Accoording to them the former JNA (Yugoslavian Peoples Army, just before the war renamed in VJ (Yugoslav Army) Milosevic is busy to kill the army financially, he taking more and mre money of their budget. And instead of supporting other things with it, like sport or so, he is investing it in his police force. The army is afraid that Milosevic is doing the same thing as Tudjman did just before the fighting's in Croatia started, namely installing so much police that you can call it an army. In those days the police was ruled by the republic (in this case Croatia, after the first free elections) and the army by the federal state. In Croatia this was the way for the Croatian government to build up it's own army, beside the JNA. Since VJ is practically controlled by Serbia, I can't imagine that Montenegro has a lot to say in that federal state, I would say why is he doing that, he practically owns the states, as many people tell me. Poor army, loosing their money to play with. Maybe there are plans behind it, for after all of this is over. Croatia has also a police force which is a little out of shape. Maybe the army is better organised in structure than the police, to many people who made a life time career in the JNA and that was, with no doubt, the state in the state in those days, so maybe some old fossils from those days are still warming stairs in which Milosevic would like to see other faces. From Sarajevo I heard that their Sunday night wasn't that quiet. The whole day and night NATO jets went over the city, to show that they take it serious.
