Granic made yesterday very clear that all things and promises agreed and made during that meeting on the airport in Zagreb are not any longer taken to be serious. According to Granic Knin wants to re-open the discussion and according to him the agreements are made unconditionally and there for he is no willing to discus them anymore. In letter to the security council and NATO yesterday Tudjman made clear that he fully supports the airstrikes and hope that this is finally the beginning of a more constructive international action to change the situation in the UNPA's. The action of Monday, I didn't realised it up to now was the biggest NATO action ever been held in their 45 years of existing. Besides the planes involved there was also a back up from about 20 more. All this power against a simple small airstrip, which was a kind of local civilians strip before the war. And all in all about 5 craters in the runway, the gunside messed up, a person killed and some small damage on other buildings. Yes, they said, we wanted to give a message. But I really are surprised why this message suddenly has to be delivered with such an airfleet, although the telephone lines still work. The messages about the situation in Bihac become more and more desperate. Yesterday it was said by BiH Prime Minister Haris Silajdzic that Serbian units have entered the southern parts of Bihac and have taken over control of Mount Debeljaca. According to UNHCR around 190.000 people are trapped in the pocket, from which at least 50-60.000 are refugees. Elsewhere in BiH members of the UN military observers corps seems to have had some problems. Some seems to be nicely escorted back to Beograd from their post in Brcko and others seems to have held for a while hostage on different place. Earlier today we heard Karadzic reaction on the whole situation, from Beograd, he was not really sounding like ready to make a peace agreement. What safe heaven in Bihac, we, the Bosnian Serbs, will first dismantle the 5th BiHarmija corps in order to establish a situation in which Muslims can live normal. Was his reaction. Never the less today very late, thanks to or nevertheless the airstrikes and this reaction from Karadzic, it seems that a siege fire agreement is reached for the Bihac pocket. Very late in the evening, it was announced on television by a speaker from BiH government. The siege fire was signed around 20.00 hours it seems. At this moment a very interesting book is laying in front of me, it is called 100 and 1 nights and has the same cover as the 100 and 1 night publication as has been publicised in Germany, nearly 100 years ago. Also a part of the illustration are the same. Although not in the original colour. The text thought is complete different. But that is logical when you know that first print of this book was made by Radio Zid, one of the radio stations which is still working in Sarajevo. 100 and 1 stories from different (local and internationals) about their experiences in the town. Day 88 is f.e. the experiences who Joan Baez wrote down of her short visit to the town. Far before others started to visit the town, since the air was during her visit still full of bullets and grenades, and although it is still not quiet in the town, those heavy days seems to be over. There is another reason why this particular copy is extra interesting, beside that it is signed by some of the writers. This is one of the 1000 copies which Radio B-92 has reprinted and is selling in Beograd. Vesna brought it from Macedonia and I must say it still is a bit strange for me to see in the colophon Sarajevo 1993, reprinted Beograd 1994. Somehow it mostly don't fit together the last years. It is good though that a book like this can be published in Beograd. Since some of the stories are not particular what you can say fairy tails and the line "they were happy living ever after" is also missing. And the tone of some of the pieces is not particular friendly, at least not towards "Serbs". I forget totally a week ago when I wrote about the first showing of the Vukovar film where that took place. Most likely such films get launched in Zagreb, but not in this case. Since Vukovar was not available for the Croatian filmmakers as they said, they choose the nearest town with cinema. So the film was launched in Nustar. Today w saw the report how the filmstars from Zagreb nearly returned to Vukovar. The small cinema of Nustar became for 1 hour the centre of Croatia, just a few kilometres from the front-line all kind of important people met each other in a very small place. Today they show the first truck on television made for 100% in Croatia. He is made by a company who use, probably still do, make agriculture machine, like tractors and so. Now they launched there first, how could it be else, off-road army truck. Torpedo the company called and the video clip showed how their last product is able to transport at least 14 soldiers or a few tons of army materials through the roughest areas. Mir za somewhere in or around Hrvatska, Wam PS ones more thanks for all the good wishes, from all over the world, nice to see to which outskirts of the world this bytes are travelling. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Zagreb Diary can be found on a lot of different electronic networks, it is copyright free and can be ported to any network or other means of communication you like, but please drop my a line, you can reach by sending a message to WAM@ZAMIR- ZG.ztn.zer.de.
