It is a very important trip according to it's words at the airport. And we in Croatia will be able to do a while without him, I think. Anyway I never lived in a country from which the president and the other political leaders are spending more time abroad then in their own country. That is at least the feeling when you watch the news, always there is one just leaving or just returning, or somewhere abroad. Going abroad and returning is not so easy as it may seems, especially if you stay longer than a few days abroad. In the last year I have seen a lot of people going abroad for two or more months, to study, to live in the west for a while, and seen them returning. They indeed have nearly all the same type of problems when they come back. Some of them are already back for months and are still recovering from their stay out side. The biggest problem is getting back in the machinery of the movement and of the normal live in Zagreb. "Live is so different here", "You have to put so much more energy into doing something here than abroad", "There is this "thing" in the air when you are here, I don't know what it is, but this special feeling and I have to get it again". At the same moment I realise how difficult it may be to get out of this place and going back home. I also have seen that, people preparing themselves of going home after being here for a year or longer. I haven't tried it yet. Fights are again taking place in central Bosnia. I haven't heard anything about the missing and killed NGO's in the last days, but more and more about new fights. A bus convoy on it's way with a few hundred Muslim to Tuzla, from the south, was attack near Vitez today and the people just could escape from their busses and safe guard themselves near the UK UNPROFOR base. When they were able to return to their busses, UNPROFOR said that it was save yet, because of shelling around the vehicles, found the busses looted and at least one of the drivers killed. Out of the first comments of the UNPROFOR commander you could read something like "It was there own mistake, I told them that they were entering a warzone, but they didn't want to listen. So what could we do" Bear loose in Jarun. Zoran phoned me and asked me if I knew anything from a bear in my part of town. If I understood him well some soldiers brought a bear back to Zagreb and let it loose in the park in Jarun. Some people from Jarun phoned this morning the Green Telephone from Green Action and asked what to do. The police seems to have answer them that they are only dealing with criminals and not with bears and the army don't know what to do with it either. If this story is true it is going to be a nice bear hunt in my part of town the coming week.. About three days ago I saw it for the first time a huge poster on a billboard with the text "Deutschland wird Deutscher" (Germany becomes more German) behind the slogan a black and white photo but even after study it for at least half an hour I couldn't recognize what it is. I hope that somebody, maybe from German can clarify the meaning of this poster. It is unclear who has and why this poster placed there, I hardly can imagine it is something commercial. Talking about campaigns, just a few days ago somebody told me, I think it was at the women information centre, of cause I couldn't refuse to say there that I am still surprised that men have such a free excess into women office and centre, I know better, anyway there I heard that the crusade against abortion and in fever of the good family is continuing. Another organisation for the good Croatia family is erected this week, and surely more to come, a good family must have at least 4 of them. As example for the campaign against abortion Aida showed me later a poster with a Croatian soldier on it and the text "also I was once an embryo". And today there was a kind of international gala (broadcasted live from Italy. even the pope appeared and told his vision on the topic) on the television in fever of the family, that's why I thought about it. This whole gala, called "Family fest", organised by an organisation "Family now" seems to organise also a big fund-raiser for children and families in Croatia and BiH. Infotheka is the latest centre in town in the peace garden, from the Peace centre in one year to a range of organisations who are more or less family from each other. 15 activists and 14 organisations said somebody as joke, luckily it isn't that bad, around the core group of ARK more and more became full-time involved in one or more of the new projects. And the co- operation is great. It looks a lot if the Zagreb civil movement, as people call it here, waked up out a kind of paralysing nightmare, last year's summer and especially in the winter. Infotheka is going to be the women info centre, they just got a terrific place, next to a beauty salon (how funny), which just received some aid from women in Germany, who brought the basis office material and will pay for the rent for some time. Books and newspapers are the next thing to come, on their future place stands now pampers, baby food, baby shampoo and other humanitarian gifts I also have to learn to live with the fact that my diary is not only read on the other side of the planet, but more and more here in Zagreb as well. When I get such a understand in between a line, this is not for the diary, than I realise that I have started to be the inside journalist, who with an half ear and half eye also looks for a story. And that the people around me start to realise that. The other side of the medal is that I also get some times stories and tips. And of course people here have somehow the true more at hand than I, so I get a knock on my fingers when I make again another "small" or "bigger" "mistake". Luckily for me those knocks are mostly very friendly are very helpful. Slowly in because the incrowd column of the local network, funny when something like that is also possible with electronic mail.
